2D Unity Development
Our aim with this beginner workshop is to introduce you to the core principles of 2D development in Unity. We will take you through the fundamental tools and workflows used to create a 2D platformer by guiding you through a number of learning cycles coupled with hands on development. A gaming project will be used as the example in this workshop, but the features and functions are applicable to all Unity projects.
Prerequisite Knowledge
This workshop is aimed at developers of a beginners level or those that are new to developing with Unity. Developers of an intermediate level may benefit from the insight into the wide range of Unity features covered in this workshop, providing familiarity across disciplines. To get the most out of the workshop, we expect attendees to have an awareness and appreciation of content creation tools and/or game engines.
What you will Learn
This workshop project is a 2D platformer. We will create a project tuned for 2D Game Development workflows. We will explore the key features of the Unity editor, sharing insightful hints, tips and shortcuts. The construction of the project will cover an introduction to areas of the Unity engine including animation, physics, player input, scripting, building and deployment, adding audio and the implementation of a user interface. This workshop is a precursor to the Unity 3D Development workshop.
Some Practical Details
You will need to bring your laptop (Windows or OSX), power supply (including any necessary international adapters), a mouse and/or accessories you work best with. Please install Unity prior to the workshop (requirement of Unity 5.4 or later).
Certificate of Course Completion will be sent via email after the workshop.
